American Vampire Timeline

American Vampire Timeline I just got into the American Vampire graphic novels by Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque and I love them, but I had trouble keeping the multiple narratives straight. For that reason I created this timeline graphic. I hope you enjoy it and check out the series if you've never read it! *warning, the timeline does contain key plot spoilers*

Beyond Watchmen

Beyond Watchmen The original Watchmen  graphic novel is untouchable. It's dense, it's complex, it's f-ing Shakespeare. But now that I caught up with the HBO show from last year, I decided to revisit some of the spin-offs and adaptations of the original novel. I'm not counting the recent DC comic Doomsday Clock run because I don't keep up with new comics, and apparently it's a bit of a mess. So here we go... Watchmen (2009) Zack Snyder's faithful adaptation is epic in scale and visually brilliant. The first 30 minutes of this film are almost a shot for shot representation of the comic. The costumes are fantastic, and what Snyder lacks in subtlety and dialogue, he makes up with well-choreographed action scenes and an absolute killer opening montage. Honestly, if you don't watch the movie, check out the opening montage on youtube. The movie is well cast with Jackie Earle Haley's Rorschach as a stand-out, but the dialogue and writing could be smoother. I

Overlooked movies you can stream right now! With everyone stuck inside and clicking through their steaming services with an overwhelming buffet of possibilities I thought I'd throw in a few movie recommendations so you can avoid the inevitable, endless scrolling. I've included a few picks from the different streaming services: Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and Disney +. Check out some of these Hidden Gems!  Netflix The Gift (2015) I watched last year's Boy Erased  (another excellent film) and saw that it was directed by Joel Edgerton (which he stars in as well) and saw that he had directed this well-reviewed movie as well. I went in mostly blind and had a great time with this stalkery thriller with great performances from the 3 leads. A tense film that's not overly scary but just creepy enough to keep you engaged. About Time (2013) This is one of the entries in the Rachel McAdam time travel rom-com trilogy ( Midnight in Paris &  The Time Tra

Best Superhero Comics

Best Superhero Comics Now that were all trapped indoors with limited entertainment options, there’s no excuse not to start reading more. Specifically comics, you should start reading comics.  I already made a list of my favorite non-superhero graphic novels ( http://peterbobbs.blogspot.com/2019/07/best-non-superhero-graphic-novels.html ) so here’s my list of my favorite superhero graphic novels. I haven’t been a lifetime comic book reader (I’ve never had a subscription and kept up with current runs) so starting to read a comic series that’s been running for 60+ years can be very intimidating. I’ve naturally gravitated to complete arcs with a clear beginning and end, and these are great for people like me, who are familiar with a character (from the movies, or general pop culture) but haven’t read the comics. If you’ve never read a comic, please check one of these spectacular storylines out, I promise you won't be disappointed. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
